How does the SilentAir air purifier work? The SilentAir air purifier uses an advanced patented-technology that combines electronics and physics to purify an environment. The SilentAir air purifier releases negative ions into the air. All airborne particles are positively charged. The airborne particles attract to the negative ions and are pulled into the SilentAir by the positively charged plates behind the collection sheets. The SilentAir air purifier is capable of all this without a fan or motor and by utilizing convection/natural air flow. |
What is the odor that is coming from the SilentAir air purifier?
What you are smelling is the effects of negative ionization. It's the same sensation as after a thunderstorm. You may also sense some ozone as it is a by-product of producing negative ionization. |
Why do I not feel any air coming from the SilentAir air purifier?
There is no air or breeze coming from the SilentAir air purifier, because there is no fan or motor. The SilentAir air purifier utilizes an advanced patented technology that uses convection natural air flow to purify your room. |
What happens when I open the front cover before the red light comes on? Opening the front cover resets the timer for 30 days. The DCS light (red light) will come on 30 days from the last time the cover has been opened/closed. |
What is the glowing green light inside of the SilentAir air purifier?
The illumination is due to the build up of static electricity on the ionization line. This is a normal occurrence and there should not be any concern. |
What is the life span of the SilentAir air purifier? The lifespan of the SilentAir air purifier is 10 years or more. Due to the fact that there is no fan or motor or any moving parts, there really isn't anything that can break down. |

Make sure there are no large objects directly in front of the SilentAir air purifier obstructing the airflow to the unit. |
Can the SilentAir air purifier purify adjacent rooms or hallways, if the door is left open? The SilentAir air purifier is meant to purify the room that it is directly placed in. It is possible to move the SilentAir air purifier from room to room, but it is not highly recommended. |
Does placement of the SilentAir air purifier matter height-wise?
We recommend placing the SilentAir 4000 air purifier on the floor and the SilentAir 2000 on top of a night-stand or table. Keeping in mind, most contaminants are 2 to 4 feet off the floor. |
How is the SilentAir air purifier better than other air purifiers that do not use filters?
Air purifiers that do not use a filter usually have a collection element that requires constant washing and/or wiping down. In some cases, the cleaning elements require 24 hours to dry, before placing them back into the unit. Cleaning the collection element can be messy and lefts one exposed to the same contaminants that are said to be harmful to one's health. If the collection elements are not thoroughly cleaned, contaminants could be re-introduced into the environment when the element is placed back into the unit. The units can become noisier, if not cleaned on a regular basis. With the SilentAir air purifier, the collection sheets are changed every month and disposed of. This insures complete removal of contaminants, quickly and easily. |
How does the SilentAir air purifier compare with the Shaper Image unit? The SilentAir air purifier and Sharper Image unit are similar in that they use the same electrostatic technology. The difference is Sharper Image units are very expensive, which makes up for the fact that no replacement filters are required. Instead of filters, a collection element is used and it is left upon the user to handle, clean and/or wipe down the element exposing the user to the same contaminants that are claimed to be harmful to the health. If the collection element is not thoroughly cleaned, the same contaminants can be reintroduced into the environment when the element is placed back into the unit. If the element is not cleaned often, the unit will tend to produce a considerable constant crackling noise. The SilentAir air purifiers are very affordable and uses disposible collection sheets as part of the patented technology. The specially engineered collection sheets trap and hold airborne particles as small as 0.002 microns. Every month, when the indicator light comes on, simply discard the collection sheet ensuring all the contaminants are removed from the environment with ease. |
How does the SilentAir air purifier compare with the Oreck unit? The Oreck unit is rated to remove particles down to 0.3 microns and operates with a fan and motor. With the fan and motor the Oreck tends to be very noisy. The collection element tends to be cumbersome and requires handling, cleaning and drying. There is also a secondary filter that requires replacement. The SilentAir air purifiers uses affordable disposible collection sheets as part of the patented technology. The specially engineered collection sheets trap and hold airborne particles as small as 0.002 microns. That is 150 times smaller than what Oreck is rated to capture. Every month when the indicator light comes on simply discard the collection sheet ensuring all the contaminants are removed from the environment with ease. Operates with no fan or motor and is very quiet. |
The green power light does not come on anymore?
It sounds like you will have to send your SilentAir air purifier in for repair. Please call our Technical Support. |
Is the DCS light supposed to be on constantly? No. The DCS light is an indicator light to let you know it's time to change the collection sheet. Once you open the cover, slide in a new collection sheet, close the cover and the DCS light will turn off. |
Why does the SilentAir air purifier make a crackling/hissing noise? It may mean that your ionization line is dirty or needs replacing. Carefully remove the ionization line and inspect it. If the ionization line curls up, it's time to replace it. To clean your ionization line, carefully remove it from the unit and set it on a table on top of a paper towel. Very gently wipe the ionization line with another paper towel and rubbing alcohol in one direction until you start to see the original gold color of the wire. Once you return the ionization line back into the unit, it may continue to crackle or hiss for a little while, but it will eventually go away. |
Does the unit affect the humidity in a room?
No, the SilentAir does not effect the humidity in a room in any way. |
What does the manufacturer's warranty cover? The manufacturer's warranty covers parts and service on any manufacturing defects to the SilentAir air purifier. The manufacturer's warranty does not cover replacement parts such as the ionization line or collection plates for breakage or normal wear and tear. |
How long is the manufacturer's warranty good for? The SilentAir air purifier comes with an automatic 1 year manufacturer's warranty. When the registration card is sent in, the manufacturer's warranty is extended to 3 years. |
What materials are the collection sheets made of?
The collection sheet is made of polyester. There are so many fibers per centimeter, that gives it a tight weave and allows it to hold and trap particles as small as bacteria and viruses. |
Can I wash the collection sheets and reuse them?
We do not suggest that you wash the collection sheets and reuse them for the simple fact that most of the particles that the SilentAir air purifier collects are microscopic and therefore, not visible to the naked eye. The collection sheet is capable of trapping contaminants such as bacteria and viruses and you don't want to be handling these contaminants. |
Can I flip the collection sheet over & reuse them? We do not suggest flipping the Collection Sheet over and reusing them. The collection plates behind the collection sheet need to positively charge the sheet in order to attract the contaminants back to the air purifier. Flipping the collection sheets over with contaminants facing the collection plates will decrease the collection plate's ablity to charge the collection sheet properly. |
Can I vacuum the dirt off of the collection sheet?
It is not recommended that the collection sheets be vacuumed. By vacuuming the contaminants, you could possibly re-introduce the same contaminants back into the air. Vacuum bags and filters do not have the ability to trap bacteria and viruses. |
The collection sheet is not noticeably getting dirty?
There can be a number of factors that can attribute to the lack of contaminants on the collection sheet. First, keep in mind, most contaminants are in micron size and are not noticeable by the naked eye. It is a matter of accumulation of contaminants before one can notice them. Turn the dial all the way clock-wise, if possible, to ensure maximum efficiency. Make sure the ionization line is clean and in good condition. We recommend changing them every 2 years after normal regular conditions. We recommend leaving the SilentAir air purifier in one location, versus moving the air purifier from room to room. |
What type of particles will it collect? What percentage of each? The SilentAir removes bacteria, viruses, mold spores, fungus, animal dander, pollen, dust mite allergens, smoke and odors. SilentAir removes 99.97% of the airborne irritants mentioned. |
How does it collect particles without a fan?
The SilentAir air purifier utilizes a patented advanced technology that uses convection or natural airflow. Any given room with a window has natural airflow. |
Why do I still see dust in the room? Dust is considered a large airborne particle when you look at the scale of airborne particles as a whole. Dust will eventually fall and is meant to be dusted and/or vacuumed. The airborne particles that remain floating in the air such as bacteria and viruses can travel deep into the lungs. These are the airborne particles most air purifiers can not collect and should be the most concern. |
Will the SilentAir air purifier remove odors from the room? The SilentAir air purifier does a very effective job of removing odors from a room, as long as it is airborne. Once the odor gets embedded into furniture, carpeting it is very difficult to remove the odor from furniture or carpeting. |
How does the SilentAir air purifier emit negative ions without a fan?
The SilentAir air purifier utilizes a patented advanced process using electronics and physics. The negative ions are dispersed into the air using natural airflow. |
How much negative ions does the SilentAir air purifier produce? The negative ion count measured in front of the SilentAir air purifier are as follows: 1 meter from unit: 1,000,000 cc 2 meter from unit: 100,000 cc 3 meter from unit: 10,000 cc 4 meter from unit: 5,000 cc 5 meter from unit: 2,000 cc |
Is ozone harmful? Ozone can be harmful in large amounts. Ozone in large amounts can attack your lung tissues. |
How much ozone is emitted by the SilentAir air purifier? The maximum levels emitted from the unit is 0.018 ppm after 16 hours of operation, which is well below the acceptable levels recommended by the FDA for indoor environments. The recommended level is 0.05 ppm. |
I can not smell ozone coming from the SilentAir air purifier anymore. Is it still working?
As long as the green power light is on, the unit is working properly. You may want to try wiping down the ionization line with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth. Do this very carefully and gently. If you have not changed the ionization line for at least 2 years, you may want to consider replacing it. |
What are the collection plates made of?
The Collection Plates are made out of aluminum. |
What is the white sediment build-up on and around the collection plates?
This white sediment is due to corona discharge, which is a natural occurance when negative and positive ions interact. We recommend wiping it off with steel wool and then going over it again with rubbing alcohol. |
What is the ionization line made of? The Ionization line is made of a gold plated wire. |
